Iceland, South and Reykjavik

This is an 8 day (7 night) journey Iceland visiting the most spectacular and beautiful sites this spectacular country has to offer.

You will spend 5 days travelling in the South of Iceland, have some time in Reykjavik and have a day free to create your own expedition.

Day 1:

Icelandair and numerous other airlines offer many flights a day to Iceland from various cities in Europe and USA. On your arrival at Keflavik International Airport in Iceland you will get a transfer from the airport to your hotel in Reykjavík (approx 1 hr). There will be time for a short city sightseeing and dinner in a typical Icelandic restaurant down town.

Day 2:

Morning departure for your sightseeing tour to South Iceland. The day starts with a visit to Thingvellir National Park where you will stroll around the country’s most historic site, home of the old Viking parliament and major events in Iceland’s history. We make stop at Lake Laugarvatn before heading further inland to explore

the beautiful and mighty Gullfoss (the Golden waterfall) and Geysir hot spring area. There we will also find Great Geysir’s neighbour, hot spring Strokkur,which spouts to a height of about 80 ft (25 m) erupting at about 5-7 minute intervals. Dinner and overnight stay in the area.

Day 3:

A whole day sightseeing and enjoying the scenic South Iceland. We will visit Skalholt, the site of an ancient bishopric and for centuries Iceland’s main cultural centre, Thjorsardalur valley, Hjalparfoss waterfall, and Viking time farmhouse Stong. Before leaving the valley we take a walk into the beautiful green oasis Gjain gorge. Optional visits include a visit to a horse breeding farm where you get to meet the Icelandic Horse through a fantastic horse show. Dinner and overnight stay in the area.



Day 4:

After breakfast we continue along the south coast to Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Stops on the way include Seljalandsfoss waterfall, Skogar waterfall and folk museum and Reynisdrangar (majestic rock formations) and the small village of Vík. Dinner and overnight for two nights in the Kirkjubaejarklaustur area.

Day 5:

Full days sightseeing tour to Skaftafell National Park where we can walk up to Vatnajokull, the largest glacier in Europe. Continue along the coast to Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon where scenes in two James Bond movies have been filmed. We will take a boat trip and sail in between the floating icebergs.

Day 6:

Drive back to Reykjavík, stopping at different interesting places, such as the “Church floor” and Fjardargljufur gorge. Afternoon arrival in Reykjavík.

Day 7:

Free day. Optional activities could include: A day trip to Akureyri and Lake Myvatn, Greenland or the Westman islands, Whale watching, Glacier trips on super jeeps, Blue Lagoon, Reykjavík day pass with entrances to museums and swimmingpools, a riding tour,sightseeing tour to Snæfellsnes peninsula or walking along River Ellidaa, a salmon river that runs in beautiful surroundings within the city limits.

Day 8:

Pick up at hotel and departure from Keflavik airport
